If you're having trouble connecting your InstaVision camera to WiFi, follow these troubleshooting steps to ensure a smooth setup.
Before You Begin: Setup Best Practices
- Place the camera close to your router (within 20 feet) during setup.
- Keep your phone near the camera and ensure it’s on the same 2.4GHz network.
- Have your WiFi password ready and double-check for typos.
- Disable VPNs or firewalls that may interfere with the setup.
- Only add one camera at a time to your account.
- Listen for camera audio prompts and follow in-app instructions.
Common Causes & Fixes
Your Network is Not Set to 2.4GHz
- Ensure your router is broadcasting a 2.4GHz signal, as the camera does not support 5GHz.
- If your router combines 2.4GHz and 5GHz into one name (SSID), temporarily disable 5GHz or create a separate 2.4GHz network.
Incorrect Wi-Fi Password
- Double-check that you’ve entered the correct WiFi password.
- Try re-entering the password or setting up with a simpler password (letters and numbers only).
Camera Too Far from Router
- Ensure the camera is within 20 feet of the router when pairing.
- If you have a mesh WiFi system, make sure the camera is connecting to the nearest node with a strong signal.
- Router Blocking the Connection
- Some networks may block new devices. Try connecting through a mobile hotspot to test if this is the issue.
Router Security Settings
- Use WPA2 security (WPA3 is not supported).
- Disable IPv6 and use IPv4 or IPv4/IPv6 instead.
Restart Your Devices
- Power cycle both your router and camera:
- Turn off your router and camera.
- Wait 30 seconds.
- Turn them back on and try again.
